OT: Check out my latest project if you like

This is the third "annual" video we did for our Chamber of Commerce's incoming chair. It's a complete insider/personality piece, so you won't get any of the jokes, but some of the visual effects are fun and it was ALL done in Vegas. We even did a transmission ala Princess Leah...

If you're interested, check it out here.

Kevin, THAT was excellent. I loved the hologram, that was really well done. Great cutting, kept attention, even if it's a little 'inside.' Thanks for sharing.
How long did you spend on this thing?
Jessariah67 wrote on 2/9/2005, 9:20 PM
Thanks, Spot.

We shot the thing in about 5 hours over three days total. It took a week full-time to cut. Really got into some of the 3D Track motion, etc., so it was quite a learning experience as I have very little experience in that realm.

Basically, each "scene" took about a day to cut. There was always "something" about each that slowed it down.

The hologram IS the crown jewel (and got the biggest reaction when we showed it). It was the different angles -- covering both the backgrounds and the actor being "projected" -- that I'm happiest with. We blew the lighting & color on a few parts, but overall I'm happy with it, considering all the pitfalls involved with split screen and stand-in compositing.

Awesome!, I knew I would like it when I saw the mahi mahi (or what ever) in the background. My wife is a print based graphic artist for political groups so maybe I can relate, I am unclear on who your audience is, but it might include the sardonic and sarcastic. Again, I thought it was great, but here is some critique. Maybe too long (not for me). Frankly I think the politicos might not get it. Good jokes... Male baldness..hurts a teensie weensie..cracked me up. Maybe render at a higher resolution, at least for audio, kinda warbly. Great job, thanks for posting!

Excellent job. Is there on-line resources to explain how you did the effects like the hologram and split screen, very well done. Even the moving photos at the start were well done. If the info is in a book give us all a clue. Excellent.

Very well Written "Witty" some really nice light hearted comedy Moments.. It was also well acted... I felt it was very well thought out.. The Editing was nicely timed with some great effects which were nicely integrated... The Hologram added to it... Giving it the feel of a higher budget.. I WAS quite happy to watch it all the way through !

Obviously a lot of thought, planning and hard work gone into this. I loved the hologram too but couldn't relate to the photos and pool water on the intro. I know the theme is time travel but it just didn't seem to fit that comfortably with the rest.

The insight into the green backdrop was great for me. I got myself a similar size screen but I haven't used it yet because I thought it was too small for the job. Thanks for the re-assurance.

Great job.

Awesome! THAT'S the way to deliver a message! Even the inside jokes had me laughing just trying to figure them out!
Many companies could learn from this type of presentation.
That's why I visit this forum daily. There is always something new and inspiring. Thanks for sharing!

Good job amigo ! Ya got me with the credits man, I sat there thinking " Wtf is this boaring piece of ... " and than it started, good stuff !

On a side note, there are two or three sounds you used that I'd love to get if ya got em. Feel free to cut me an email or post on here and I'll be more specific when I get a chance to catch the times. Was to busy lauging to pay attention to when they were.

One more time, great job !

This is the sort of video that would make an excellent "How to do it" Turorial. You should consider sharing your veg file, original clips and 'splain how you put it all together.

Now THERE's a great idea. Kevin, we'd love to host this on the VASST site as a tutorial!

theceo, there is a tutorial on holograms on the VASST site already, if you want to see how Kevin did that portion of the project.

Simply awesome. I think this could show some of the Mac people how the PC can truly be used for video, and how Vegas is a seriously professional piece of software.

What is the song that plays last? (While the guy with the Ithaca mug drinks his coffee.)
Jessariah67 wrote on 2/10/2005, 7:22 AM
The song is one that we host on our Royalty Free Downlioad site. It's by one of the composers at Dynamedion - a German production company.

The "boring" beginning was intentional (obviously) to make the initial boom even bigger. It was also part of the "inside joke" as Alan is a real throwback to that "lounge" style.

I know the 256k is a bummer, we're currently adding 512k's to our portfolio, so a better one is coming.

Most of the SFX were from the Cinematix 1 & II libraries, so that's where you can get ahold of them.

I'll take you up on your offer, Spot. I can put together something with screen shots & "how we did it" at least. (.veg files & media might be a bit large...) It was time consuming, but not really that complicated. Hosting it on the VASST site would be great! Drop me an email and let me know how you want to proceed with it.

Thanks for all the feedback. Glad you liked it.

Very impressive. I am always amazed when I see a project like that all done in Vegas. I have a lot to learn.
Thanks

Kevin, That was awesome, impressive, and very funny. I loved it. You can tell a lot of planning and work went into making it. I also appreciated the “behind the scenes” at the end. I just purchased a green screen and now I can’t wait to use it.

Again, thanks.

I put a tutorial together over the weekend and sent it to Spot. Someone will let you know when it's available.
