OT: Checking Head Hours on Sony Cam...

jrazz wrote on 12/12/2008, 3:26 PM
I bought a used Sony HDR-HC1 as a replacement to my other one (it took a fall off a platform while on an tripod) and I found a good deal on it (I am lucky that it was my cheap cam that fell).

However, I want to verify that the hours he told me are the correct head hours, but I don't know of any way to check it. I would think there would be a way, but I can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

isn't the HDR-HC1 the small hand held version of the hvr-hd1000?

if so, go to the touch screen menu, the "standard set" section, status check.

that gives me the total operation time, drum run, tape run, threading, component output, i.link conversion, video out setting, hdmi out setting.

No. It is the consumer version of the HVR-A1u.

On the A1 I can do exactly as you describe and get the information. On the HC1 I cannot. Maybe it is just not viewable?

Typically, the hours meter is a function included on the "prosumer" versions of Sony's cameras, not the consumer versions. This has been true at least as far back as the PD150 and it's consumer sibling, the VX2000. The PD150 had it, the VX2000 did not.

is that true for all manufactures? I seem to remember getting an hours screen for my old Canon Hi8 camera.

Unlike on the pro version HVR-A1U, there is no way for a user to check drum hours on the HC-1. I believe Sony service can when plugged in to there diagnostic computer.
