If you're looking for follow a path and stuff like that with your text, AFAIK it isn't directly supported in Vegas at this time. There are a couple presets under Media Generator (version 4) that do curved tops, stuff like that, but to go all around the edge of a circle for example, you'll need to import from another application.

I'm behind in versions of Photoshop. Only got version #5. So if you have a later version I think it supports paths. I know Paint Shop Pro does. If you do and it does just drop in the Photoshop file on a track above your regular vid. If you make the Photoshop file transparant, that's really all you need to do otherwise use a file type that supports a transparancy.

I suppose you could patch something together in Vegas, using 4 text events on separate tracks, and bend/squeeze/deform/position them to your taste.

It's also possible, but a lot of work, to use a lot of text events (one for each word, or even letter) and position/turn each one to create a circulare line of text. That way the letters will not deform, as they will in the first example. That's good for readability, but then I guess, when you want circular text, readability is not your highest priority.

I would highly recommend a program by MediaChance called RealDRAW-Pro ($55) for making some very slick titles including circular text or text that conforms to any curve. You just type your text, make a circle, and then select both the text and circle by holding down the shift key as you click, and press the “Fit Object to Path” button. It couldn’t be any easier.

RealDRAW-Pro has some incredible capabilities for making static text appear 3D including the control of light sources, bevels, and shadows. What’s exceptional about this program is that everything is always an object. No need to create layers. You can go back and edit everything and move it independently just like Powerpoint. It treats vectors and bitmaps the same. You don’t have to promote layers to raster, etc. Just click on a vector object and paint on it like a bitmap. It’s amazingly easy to use.

I also have Paint Shop Pro and I use RealDRAW-Pro for all my titles because its 100 times easier to use. You can apply entire styles with just once click from the style library and save your own styles there as well. Styles like chrome, brushed gold, and other metals come standard and look great on titles. You can easily export to a PNG file and never even learn what an alpha channel or mask is. It does all the hard work for you auto-magically behind the scenes. It’s great for making transparent lower-thirds. You can download a copy and try it out for 30-days for free.
