OT: Coaxial Digital

Hi Guys.

Tapping into the collective knowledge here.

Is Coaxial Digital the Same as S/PDIF?

The reason I ask is that I have a new M-Audio Delta 1010LT card, and it's S/PDIF in isn't recognising the signal from the Sony MDSE58 Minidisc player Coaxial Digital out.

If they are the same then I'll try other things like cabling.

Cheers,

Andy

Sort of... S/PDIF stands for Sony/Philips Digital InterFace, and is either Co-Ax or Optical (toslink). So yes, co-ax cable is what you should be using.

The MD deck will be spitting out 16-bit 44.1k, so check that your sound card is set up for this, and your sound card should also be set to sync it's clock to the incoming digital stream.

When the MD deck is off you will have to change the sound card back to internal clock.

These settings should be available in whatever control pannel software comes with the sound card.
