Once upon a time, when I was young, I was in a combat photo unit in Vietnam, the 221st Signal Company. The footage shot by 221st photographers has been used in untold numbers of productions. Next year, Ken Burns will release a 10 part show on Vietnam. Our footage will no doubt play a part but our guys will not get any credit or even be mentioned. It will be like the pictures took themselves. Everything we shot belongs to the National Archives (as it should) – to everyone – to the people. We remain anonymous. Well, finally, an outfit called Traditions Military Videos has released a DVD production about us, “Unseen Warriors”. I was proud to help them bring it to fruition.
