OT: Converting Canon S100 MOV to AVI with Neoscene

Rich Parry wrote on 1/15/2012, 11:22 PM
I’ve been using Neoscene to convert my Canon 5DM2 MOV files to a video editor friendly AVI format using Neoscene for nearly a year.

I just ordered the Canon S100 P&S camera which will arrive within a few days. In the meantime, I downloaded a sample file from the web to test. I was disappointed to find Neoscene gives an error message when converting the MOV file. The following is a portion of the error message.

Error: m_graph->Connect(avi_audiopin.pin) …

FYI: I purchased the S100 for its weight and not IQ. I plan to put it on an RC helicopter and weight is more crucial than IQ, at least for now.

Comments welcome on how to convert the S100 files, thanks in advance,
Rich

Rich,

I don't have an answer about your Cineform question, but I might suggest you take a look at the following thread, http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=780342stabilizer plugin question[/link] The aerial footage in question in this thread would have benefited significantly from a faster shutter speed.

If you use the Canon S100 for helicopter footage, you will probably want to stabilize the footage after you capture it. Will the S100 allow you to set the shutter speed for video? Maybe it has a "Sports" Setting - which usually indicates a fast shutter? Don't the GoPro series of camcorders detault to a fast shutter? And it's pretty much guaranteed that GoPro will work with Cineform.

Well, I've diverted from your question, but maybe the referenced thread will help you in your camera purchase decision.

I know that for Contour 1080p video cameras, cineform has you get a third party software to convert the contour file to something HdLink will be able to use.
MOre than likely,this is the issue.

Thanks for response, I don't have the S100 yet but will look into your suggestion when it comes. I always assumed when you are shooting at 30fps, you should have the shutter speed set to 1/60, but I guess that is not true for aerial video. I'll have to look into this.

I have a GoPro, but find IQ on the weak side, but it is great for what it does.

thanks,
Rich
