Hi - anyone convert avi/mpg to the ipod-compatible mp4 format? Any tips/tricks/things to know re what format's best, re resolution and codecs etc?

seems like an interesting player, the newer one with 60 gig capacity... would hold a lot of movies/video clips as well as mp3 audios..

I just use quicktime pro to convert vids for my 60 gb ipod. It works great. I haven't had any quality issues. If you are talking about converting vid for professional use to be for sale on the itunes site, there is another program that they (apple) require you to use. I forgot the name of it. This is what I was told by a friend who is doing just that.

I just did my first one from with in Vegas 6.0d. There is a "render as" choice already there. worked great.

Howdy...

For my video-podcast (http://www.neo-fight.tv), I use the Main Concept preset built into 6.0d. There's an apple iPod preset there. I do change it to lower the frame rate and reduce the bitrate (it's too high for my podcast) but it still works fine with the iPod.

Best,

Benjamin

Benjamin, your blog looks very nice. Do you mind sharing how to generate the code for the chicklet and the links to subscribe directly to itunes?

Thanks!

Hey Benjamin, thanks... super site too... I watched the first half, now you've got me thinking about the Archos AV700 Media Player, since 100gigs and a bigger screen, sounds better to me than an ipod w/tiny screen, especially since video's important to me. I've got a portable panasonic dvd player, but of course there's zero memory, so it's only useful for playing shiny silver discs... the Archos sounds like, as with ipod, I can transfer video/audio to the unit to watch anywhere ... so that's cool..

thx for the tips, and for having a great tech review video site, very well done.

Wow! Thanks for the kind words...

I use an RSS service called "FeedBurner" that generates all the chicklets for me, and keeps track of my subscriptions. Pretty handy...

I'm very happy with the Archos. Sure, it's big, but it also has the best interface other than the iPod, and the screen is very easy to watch...

Best,

Benjamin
