OT - Copyright Question

This is a bit different than our usual copyright discussions, at least I have not seen this. My wife is an educational consultant. We would like to use a particular song to demonstrate how to teach teachers to more effectively educate special needs children in a differentiated education class (both special needs and regular students at the same time). There is more to it than this, but the guts of the object is to play the song at the normal speed, then slow it down by 10 percent and play it again. My question is this, can we do this in the presentation in an educational environment, or do we have to get permission from the music company, I THINK it's Sony BMG, but not sure how to find out.
Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Generally, if it's for purposes of social commentary, not for general public access, it's covered under Fair Use, but you should check with your school's librarian, as they often are very capable and knowledgeable on the subject of Fair Use and your school district.

Chances of BMG making a complaint are next to nil --- but if they did to me it's doubtful this would be fair use as your wife is a consultant to the school district and receives monetary gain specifically from the presentation using BMG's copyrighted material.
