Well, not to be contrary again, but one of the features i love about this forum is that it is so sleek and streamlined, and a large part of that is because there are no images. I prefer having links to such things rather than having bandwidth hogs right here in the forum.

...having bandwidth hogs right here in the forum.

That's only partially true. Yes, If a forum allows images to be added as an attachment, that image IS uploaded to the forum hosts website and does take up the forums web space and bandwidth.

However, if a forum only allows 'hotlinking' (typically using ubb code like ), even though the image can be seen at the forum, the image is hosted at the posters website and only uses the posters webspace and bandwidth.

I have submitted images and veg files in the past with a link.
However, because I have a small amount of free storage by my ISP
I need to delete it shortly afterward.

How long would we actually need to keep the info? Next release of
Sony software?

I assume that once the poster of a thread replies back with a "thank you"
he/she has downloaded the example and can finish their project.

Months later you can still read the text and/or send email to get the
sample again if needed.

Navydoc: i'm referring to my personal bandwidth, not the forum's bandwidth. I like the fact that these forum pages load almost instantaneously even on a bad dialup connection. Having images either embedded or linked from elsewhere would slow it down a lot.

One could define a flag in the user's profile "do not display images" and web software put link's in for the pics/images/movies. this could solve loading times. The user profile could have a conditional flag for size, ie, greater 200k, don't load......

Chienworks,

Thanks for the clarification. I do believe most forums have an option for each member to turn 'viewing images' on or off...usually in their profile.

For those using dialup, I do understand the concern for posts with very large and/or very many images plus avatars and signature images.
