OT: DMF6+ and HD-DVD

Galeng wrote on 7/5/2008, 7:35 AM
I know this may not be the best place to post this question, but I do know there are forum members out there with the answer to my questions, so here goes.

I want to burn HD-DVDs (to either 4.7 or DL DVDs) using DMF6+ w/ the HD pack in conjunction with Vegas Pro. I shoot with a Sony HC7. In Vegas I edit directly with the m2t file captured from the HC7. I have no problems there. Most of the editing consists of cutting out unwanted portions, adding text, simple transitions and doing some color correction. After editing I render with the HDV 1080i template.

My questions:
Which template do I use in Vegas to render the file to in preparation for DMF6?

In DMF6 what project properties do I use?

Please be very specific if you can. i.e. 1920 preset, 1440 preset, customize, bit rate, upper field, lower field, none, etc.

Thanks so much for your help. I've been lucky on one project and everything worked, but most of the time I am getting lousy sound or some stuttering video and/or sound.

I did do a search, but for the most part saw posts related to BDs only.

Thanks again,

Galen

You can use the same mpeg2 m2t render for authoring either HD DVD or Bluray. I haven't done this since the end of the format war, but it worked well the last time I tried.

Laurence,
What I am confused about is the project settings in DMF6.

If I choose the preset HD-1440 project it is set to render with Field Type "lower field first" and at 18000 kbps.

If I choose preset HD-1920 it is still set to lower field first but jumps up to 25000 kbps.

Both have LPCM at 48000Hz.

The only way I have been able to avoid video audio stutter is to set Field Type to "No fields" which doesn't mke sense to me since the HD files were recorded with upper field first.

If you can recall the project settings you used in DMF6 I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Galen

You can customize the settings. When I make HD DVD's in MF6 my settings are 1440x1080, 25M, upper field first, with AC3 audio (You may substitute that for LPCM@48000). But I have the A1 player which works at that level. If you have the A3 or A30 you may have to drop the bitrate to 18M or so.

Use VERBATIM disks!!! Most others will cause stutter.

I've used 25 Mbit/sec encoding and Verbatim single layer disks for 100s of HD DVDs which play without any stutter in both the A1 as well as the A3 Toshiba players.

Thanks, I'll give those settings a try. I'll have to see about getting a verbatim disk. I've tried the tayo yudo watershield disks, ridata and tdk.

Thanks,
Galen

I am surprised we are recommending brand names at this stage of the game.

Verbatim discs with a media ID code of MCC 02RG20.

Like these.

Those are all single layer.

I use these: (double layer injet printable.... hard to find.)

And as far as brand names go.... I've proven it to myself time and time again... these are GOOD disks (and come complete with rounded edges)..... these NEVER fail

That supplier's page says:

"Media Code Mfr: N/A"

So what is the Media Code for the discs Blink?

DMF6 = 'DVD MovieFactory 6'
DMF6+ = 'DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus' (with HD support)
