OT: Do camera flashes wear hurt VidCam CCD's

I do mostly wedding videography and was just wondering if the constant flashes from guests cameras hurt the CCD or CMOS chips in the Video cameras?
I'm not too worried about the side flashes but it's when someone points the camera directly at you and fires a shot.
Will this eventually hurt my Video cameras?

Camera flashes are harmless.

Pointing your camera into the sun will burn your chip. (I actually did that with an old digital still camera taking shots of a solar halo)
