OT: Dual monitor question.

Hi, I have the following monitor connected to my pc:

PHILIPS ' 190 S 5 FG' 19":
TFT.
29 82 kHz
1280 x 1024 TCO 03 (190 S 5 FG).

Most ' professional' video workstation has dual monitors.
So I am also thinking of buying a second monitor.

As most of you know this second monitor is used as an extension to the other one (with the help of a dual head video card e.t.c)

My question is.
I would like to use the second monitor as the external video monitor for Vegas so as a ' fire wire - pass through video monitor'

How could I accomplish this??

1.Connect fire wire to my Dv camera.

2. My Dv camera converts the footages to the RCA output.

3. And in this step I should actually have a RCA Video input on my TFT Monitor so that I can connect the RCA Out put of my camera.

But as far as I know I never saw a RCA input on a TFT PC Monitor.

should I have a RCA to pc monitor converter?

Ofcourse I could just use the second monitor as an extension (bigger desktop) and pull out the Vegas video window to the second monitor to get the same effect.

But the reason for me to use the second monitor as the external is.

1. Probably using the external monitor instead of enlarging the Vegas video window uses less processor power.

2. Good end product visualisation, like the text sizes, screen border on DVDA e.t.c.

Thanks for any reply,

V

If you are authoring for standard definition TV and DVD, you do not want to do this. The purpose of an external firewire monitor is to view your project on the target device. Since the target device is an interlaced TV screen, using a progressing scan RGB monitor defeats the purpose. The gamma and color reproduction is very different between these two devices. If your target is a TV monitor then you want to preview/color correct on a TV monitor.

Vegas 6 will allow you to preview on your second windows monitor. No special setups needed. But this is primarily for HD users since their target device is an LCD or Plasma screen. You really should be using a TV monitor for this task.

Johnny

Do you mean a CRT TV or can a LDC TV do the job? I ask because I want to buy a LCD TV that I both can use as an extra monitor (using the dvi connection) and as an external TV (firewire monitor).

I have often wondered about this myself. I don’t have an answer. I would use a CRT TV but perhaps an LCD would work since it is meant to emulate an interlaced CRT TV. I just don’t know.

Good points.. I'm using a matrox 3-head parhelia card now, works great, but need to expand to include some kind of video out to a tv monitor, to check color levels etc.. anybody know of a configuration with say a new nvidia agp card + pci cards, that together would provide for at least 3 monitors of LCDs + a video monitor output?

I don't know if the new nvidia agp cards will also work w/pci cards in the slots, for multiple monitor output - anyone have a 3-4 monitor rig w/tv out setup?

btw it's great to work with at least 2-3 monitors, significantly improves productivity/timing..

I started a thread about getting 3 computer monitors to run with a dual head AGP card and an older PCI card. I asked my tech guru and he said I could do that but be prepared to have my system run real slow.

Not too sure about that....he's the type of techie guy who thinks that if he hasn't tried it himself, then it probably won't work...heh.
