OT: Dual monitors--what'd I do wrong?

Jay Gladwell wrote on 9/8/2003, 4:20 PM
I just set up a dual monitor system, too. The one monitor alone looked great--very sharp picture. When I added the second, both have horrible resolution (set at 1280x1024) text isn't crisp any longer.

Too, it's like I'm looking at each desk top through a hole--I have to scroll from top to bottom and side to side. I had presumed the desktop (and Vegas) would simply "stretch" across the two monitors and fit top to bottom.

What'd I do wrong? Will UltraMon fix this?

Okay, I found the problem to the above question (resolution showing did not match resolution in video card set up).

I was under the impression that the workspace in Vegas would stretch across the two screens. Was I wrong, or have I still not set it up properly?

Sure it will, just pull it over to the second monitor, undock what you want and place it on either side.I have the timeline and preview on the right, everything else (trimmer ,media ,explorer ,efects on the left,,

There are several way to set up dual monitors. You can stretch your desktop of keep them independent. There are numerous websites with information on the topic.
I just got a Matrox Triple head card. Now I can stretch it out over three monitors.

Risce1 and Decrink, thanks! Yes, I can undock items and move them to the second monitor without any trouble, What I meant was I thought the entire Vegas work surface would show across both. But as I think of it, that would defeat the purpose of undocking the preview window, for example, to free up that space, wouldn't it?

I have a Matrox G550 and I can stretch Vegas over 2 monitors if I don't maximize the window with the middle button at the upper right of the frame. If I maximize the window I can undock portions of Vegas but Vegas itself can't be stretched beyond the primary window.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Larry, I'll give that a shot and play around with it.

I have used duals and Ultra-Mon for about a year now. Vegas will stretch over both monitors, but you must set the display to minimize. Maximize locks the display to the primary monitor display size. The middle button, top right corner, must show overlapping pages (windows) to stretch over both monitors. Good Luck, John

John, let me begin by saying I've never professed to being the brightest light on the tree.

Having said that, I took a look at UltraMon and I'm not certain I can see what the benefit of the app is at $40 a pop. Perhaps it would be helpful for three or more monitors, or if you wanted to strech a single image across two or more monitors, but once your set up for dual monitors, I don't see much of a need for it. What am I missing here, if anything?
