OT: DV Playback Device

Ok, new delimma. Our equipment )save the cameras XL1), is pretty ancient. I am about to start showing the kids how to edit field work and feel it would be greatly beneficial to shell out some cash for an actual DV deck for recording and playback for broadcast.

If I could get something cheap yet reliable, even used, that would be awesome. Id like to avoid brand new if possible but am open to something that doesnt cost an arm and a leg.

If anyone has any links to products or information on these devices, I would GREATKY appreciate it.

I don't think I have seen any cheap Mini-DV decks anywhere but I could be very wrong. My original (outmoded) Panasonic was $1,000.00.

You can find some used JVC decks at B&H for the $300-$500 price range, but personally, I wouldn't buy another piece of JVC equipment.

Try to find a used Panasonic AG-DV1000. I see a couple up on E-bay right now for about $400-500. Mini-cassette only, but mine's been a real workhorse. Solid construction, timecode readout, good firewire implementation, on-the-fly analog/DV conversion, and a nice array of analog input/output options.
