OT - DVD Printers

Sorry for the somewhat off topic subject, but does anyone have a recommendation for a DVD printer? I would prefer to print directly onto the burned DVD rather than create a lable. As always, money is an issue, but I also want something that will work reasonably well. Are there any to avoid at all cost? If it is an inkjet, roughly how many disks can you print on one ink fill?

This topic comes up periodically in the Vegas Pro forum. Here is a recent example.

Personally, I have an HP Photosmart D5160, which cost me $75 USD last February. It has filled my needs just fine.

The number of disks you can print is totally dependent on what colors you use. I'm cheap, so I intentionally design disks with light colors just to go easy on the ink. I can usually get a 100 or more disks printed with one cartridge. On the other hand, I have done DVD case jackets that have absolutely ate up the ink. One that I did last winter would eat up a whole cartridge just printing a couple dozen jackets. So, basically, you can stretch the life of a cartridge a long way by using lots of white and/or light colors in your designs.

Thanks for the info and the links. It appears that the difference between HP and Epson is kind of like asking people if they prefer Chevy or Ford. You will get just as many passionate responses for either.

Any thoughts about the difference between inkjet versus thermal printers for printing on disks?

I don't know about HP but I had to return a Lexmark because of poor quality. I've been very happy with Epson printers and currently use an R210 for printing DVDs.
