I admit I am extremely confused on my search for my my new HDTV,, been reading everything I can find, recent posts by BillyBoy were great info,, just careful my hard earned dollars are not going to be spent on something obsolete in 3 minutes. Now I run into this electronics geek at one of the local electronics place, and he is pushing EDTV. what the hell is that! Got to say it looked pretty good. Think I'll save my money till my pea brain can figure this stuff out, maybe buy a new cam instead.

short and sweet "Enhanced Definition" not the resolution of HDTV, usually found on lower cost plasmas and LCD's

EDTV is progressive at 480. Not HDTV.

edit: oops. already beat me to the punch.

With all the technology out there, (DLP, LCD, Plasma, LCOS) I wouldn't be surprised you're confused. I feel your pain coz i've been there.
Don't get EDTV! If you're gonna spend all that cash for a set, don't settle for anything less.
It took me a year and a half of research before I finally decided on my Toshiba 62HMX94 DLP HDTV. The best info you can find would be the AVS Forums and eCoustic Forums.

Historically, HDTV was defined to be twice the perceived horizontal and vertical resolution of standard-definition TV (SDTV). EDTV back then (late 1980's) was defined to be anything better than SDTV, but not as good as HDTV.

Now Dolly Parton, that was enhanced definition......
Sorry couldn't pass it up.
