I use TMPGEnc to encode to mpeg-1, you CAN do it straight from the Vegas TL using the MC encoder but hardly a stellar performer. Better to render to a new AVI and encode from that use TMPGEnc or frame serve to TMPGEnc.

If you meant live mpeg recording, you might want to look into the Canopus Mpegpro EMR (an extrernal hardware device) or the MVR (internal).

Both capture mpeg very well.

Or another external device that does real-time MPEG2 & MPEG1 (i think) encoding would be the ADS Instant DVD device.

i use an ATI AIW & haven't had any drifts at all (i've captured from DVCPro & VHS on it. No drifts)
