Is this for editing? For editing

This is USB. I'd prefer Firewire

It is only 5400 rpm. I'd always go with 7200 rpm

Data buffer is 2mb. No biggie but the new 300gb maxtors now have 16mb buffers . .there must be a reason.

Check out the prices for the external Maxtor 300gb before you make that final £$£$ decision - yeah?

Grazie

Another tip:

External drives only carry 1 year warranty - 2 years max.

You can purchase a Seagate 300GB 7200RPM drive for $79-$99. This drive will carry a 5 year warranty.

You can then purchase an external Firewire case with quality fan etc. for between $39-$55.

You get the best of both worlds at the same price.

I have an external Maxtor right now that gets pretty hot so I do not leave it on. I assume that with the internal & the enclosure with the fan I could leave the drive on?

Also, I'd be interested to know what enclosures people have had the most luck with and where do you purchase the drives/enclosures. I've used newegg.com in the past.

I purchased a Seagate external 300gig usb/firewire at Best Buy for $150 in December (after rebates). It works great. Does not affect Canopus when both are on. I have a Seagate 250 gig in an after market case and it gives me nothing but trouble. Canopus and drive don't like one another. USB causes delayed write failures when I plug it in. I have another case brand new in the box that I am going to try. If it doent work I wont by anymore aftermarket cases.
