Anyone here know of a converter for FreeHand/FH11 files to a format readable by any current software. I've searched, but can't find anything that works.
After a quick search, the easiest would be to find a copy of FreeHand and then export in a non-proprietary format.
Do you need the original vector information (i.e., do you want to convert to a WMF or similar format), or would a bitmap representation be OK?
There used to be many products that handled this, like Hijack. I couldn't find them anymore. I also checked QuickView, which was bundled with Windows 95, and has been sold from company to company since then. However, there is no Freehand support.
Some DTP apps can import a wide range of vector formats, so if you have InDesign, PageMaker, Quark, or similar program, they might be able to import the file and you can go from there. I just checked on my old program, Ventura Publisher, and indeed it DOES import Freehand files.
Pagemaker, Quark, and InDesign don't open them. I don't have Fireworx but could likely find a friend with a copy. This is a fairly old book on camera techniques that I'd like to be able to open and repurpose.
Thanks for the help so far, guys!!

I have Freehand 9 and would be happy to convert it for you, but if the files are specifically for FH11 then you'll need access at least version 11. You can download a free trial version of Freehand MX from the Adobe site. It is a fully functioning version that timesout in 30 days.
Jim,
This worked perfectly. Allowed me to convert the files to rtf and .tif so I can import them to InDesign. Thank you for the pointer, and everyone else for the assist!
