OT - Film Festival update

Hey gang -

I am SO proud to announce that the selection committee for the Palm Beach International Film Festival has chosen my movie, "Cowboys of Florida" for inclusion.

This means my movie will premiere in April (dates to be announced in two weeks) at the PBFF - whoopee.

So why does this matter to any of you?

Because it was produced entirely with the same tools that any/all of you have... cameras - Sony PD150 and PD170 and Sony PC-1 (a seven year old single chip "tiny cam", and even a $250 Sony DigiDV..
It was scored (in part ) with ACID.
It was edited entirely in Vegas 6 and authored to DVD for judging in Architect.
And it was cut on an "off the shelf" computer from Best Buy.
Take THAT AVID and Apple... (well, of COURSE you could do the same job with those tools - that's not the point.) The object of this announcement is to get all of you "doubters" to recognize that the equipment wars are over. Professional quality tools are available to anyone. Believe me, the judges on the selection committee weren't saying, "I wonder what camera he was using, or what he edited with?" Neither does the audience.
For the last time I will yak at you, "It's all about Concept and Execution"... and that's all about skill set and taste - two things that everyone of you have - admittedly in varying degrees. But practice definitely makes perfect - I've got a 40 year lead on a lot of you - so what - go for it.
BTW - the movie was also entirely lit with my little nanolight, although let's face it, a cowboy movie doesn't have a lot of big interiors.

Now, like many of you, I got stuck a number of times in the editing of this movie, and all you folks here in the forum jumped right in and helped. So thanks!
Remember guys - NOBODY knows EVERYTHING, anymore (except maybe Spot) - it's all changing too quickly. So your shot is as good as the next guys.
Get out there and start shooting!!!!!!!
(me so happy)
Palm Beach chose this video out of a submission of over 3,000 videos from the international movie production family. You can do it, too!

Vic, just watched the film tonight. Damn. Powerful. Moving. Wonderful execution of story, awesome pictures, terrific eye, I had to rewind a couple of times to figure out how you knew where you were going with the cam long before you did it, because docco's like this are really hard to plan those cam shots for when you don't have total control.
Very impressive.

Congratulations Vic. This forum is the best.

Exactlly the reasons I keep harping every year on Sony concentrating on improving the BASICS for us rather than concentrating on bells and whistles.
