OT: Firefox 2 Spell Checker - Yippee!

JohnnyRoy wrote on 10/31/2006, 4:35 AM
Did you know the Sony forums now have spell checking? It does if you're using Firefox 2!

I gotta tell ya... I've been composing posts in Microsoft Word and cutting and pasting them here for years. I just realized that Firefox 2 has a built-in spell checker. As I'm typing in the Sony forum edit window, it's giving me the red underline in misspelled words and I can right-click and correct them. No more MS WORD! Yippee!

That is worth the price of upgrade alone. No wait... it's FREE! ;-)

Ok so we should have a spelling bee to test it.

Thanks Johnny. Totally no excuse for my bed spilling know - huh? Not with those red lanes under my wards.

Yea, now if I can only get a spell checker in instant messenger, no one will know what a bad speller i am. ;-) (We use Lotus Sametime 7.5 at work and it has a spell checker built in too. It's too bad Microsoft doesn't have this in messenger but once again they are playing catch-up)

One of the Google toolbar ICONS does have a spell checker which works globally in anything INTERNET.

BTW, my Brit-Spell checker didn't like GOOGLE!?!? It wants me to accept: Goggle or Googly . .or . . better yet: "Go ogle"

Now all I WANT is an easy way to format stuff as BOLD Italic or Underlined . . .

wait... you right click to correct? Cool! Didn't know that! :D

For those of us that still use IE, you could always use IE Spell, a free spell checker for Internet Explorer. I've used it for some time now and it works great (a treat as Grazie might say).

Ya, this feature is awesome. At first I thought it was something in Gmail.

On the other hand, I also upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 and found that it can't even load my favorite forums over at 2cpu.com... Wow, Firefox is just so nice to have.

To complete your forum posting experience I also highly recommend BBCodeXtra. It will give you a right-click menu to insert HTML tags simply by highlighting a word and select Bold from the popup menu and the correct HTML tags are inserted around the word. It sure beats adding them manually.

It also supports BBCode like those used by DVInfo.net, DVXUsers.com, etc.

In Firefox go to: Tools > Add-ons and press the Get Extensions link at the bottom right. Then search for BBCodeXtra.

(note: the hyperlinks and bold in this post were added by BBCodeXtra) ;-)
