OT: Flash encoding

Hi

I wanted to share some tests I have done lately on finding the best way for me to encode ½ hr. video (DV AVI) to flash (FLV 512 x 288 x 512Kb, CBR) every week, in case anybody else can use it.

Until now I have been using the flash build feature in Adobe Encore CS3, and the ½ hr. video would encode in 2 hrs. on my i7 920 on XP Pro.

I then bought the On2 flix exporter plugin for my Canopus Procoder, but it was so sloooow... 3.5 hrs. on a quadcore 2.5 GHz.

Then I downloadet the trial of On2 Flix Pro and the Sorenson squeeze. They were aprox. the same encoding time, but I like the On2 Flix Pro the best.

I now on my i7 encode in aprox. ½ hr. and that is ok for me :-)

Since you're encoding to a low bitrate (512kbs), wouldn't VBR be better quality?

Also, I've used Super for encoding DV-AVI to FLV. I have not compared the rendering times as you have, but am happy with the output.

Would probably, yes. I am going to test more now that I have found a good product. I have tried the Super too some time ago, and as I recall it the quality was pretty good too.
