OT: font extensions

I'm trying to help out a guy on another Vegas forum.
He got a font from an overseas corporate head office (hard to get information from them) but it has no extension (like .ttf) on it.
Odds are that this came from a Mac house so my question is can he simply add a .ttf to it or is there another extension that a PC (and ultimately Vegas) will recognize.

If it came from a Mac, you might want to try *.otf. Without actually changing the extension, though, try using the "Open With" option when you right click... choose the Windows Font Viewer, and see what it can tell you about the actual format of the font file.

I'll pass the suggestions along.
Thanks Andrew.

A few font formats are cross platform.

If you have an old non-compatible font that you can't buy, there are some slightly expensive tools that can convert the files.
