OT: free background music

L8R wrote on 5/24/2009, 6:45 AM
I know this should be in the audio forum but more people use this one.
I've done a search on the forum for free background music to be used in a commercial demo video. You know the cheesy kind you here in training videos.
I got a few results but not quite what I was looking for.
Can anyone throw me in the right direction.
I would be happy if its free, if now inexpensive.

I use Smartsound Sonicfire. It is not free, but you can buy single tunes, about 10$ each. Provided you have purchased the tool you need to use it, that is. If you are making a commercial video, I assume money is involved, and investing in Smartsound is a good investment IMO. All kinds of music, and you can tailor the tune and customize it to a very high extent, to fit the pictures. Tunes are tagged in a way that lets you find what you are after.

I use Cinescore from Sony (it isn't free) which I use for various projects. They are great for background music in commercials as well. It integrates into Vegas seamlessly.

If you are using music that is not for personal use I don't know of anything that is free.

There are lots of good stock sites. I use Revostock, but there's many other good ones.

I found that there are some great tunes available from the Music Bakery at http://www.musicbakery.com. Although not free, the tunes run from about $30 to $40 a piece but are royalty-free. That is, with your one-time purchase you have unlimitted use. I would suggest taking the time to listen to all of their music since there a number of really excellent tunes mixed in with lots of "cheesey" ones. Each tune is available in several variations of both length and style.

Stock 20

Excellent music at $20 per selection. Each selection includes many different lengths and mixes of the same basic music clip for the same $20.

I just edited the link. From some reason the "20" was left off the link and you would end up at a stock trading site.

thanks everyone, I will for sure check those sites out.
These videos will be on my clients website and they are a very big client, nation wide. So I am sure they will want to do things properly.
I am sure they won't have a problem paying for tunes.
