I think I caught the tail end of a story about this a few weeks ago. The claim was that the sensors could be so cheap, we'd have cameras in pretty much anything with a battery.

Having just skimmed your article, I don't see how they can get decent gray scale, much less color, and whether the device would be very forgiving of under/over exposure.
