Gary,

I was watching the Vegas training video again last night, and I saw you using a VCR with a fire wire hookup.

Do you use that for analog to digital converting? How much are the machines, and what are some solid models that are not too expensice?

There are a lot of decks out there that are MiniDV-VHS combo decks.
It was probably something similar to one of These

Glad to be of service.

The DV deck that you see in The Vegas 5 Companion and Vegas Video Editing is one of my Sony DHR-1000s. They are great decks with a lot of features including insert editing, though they are no longer being made. Unfortunately, this deck does not pass incoming analog out through firewire.
