OT Getting Quicktime to play large .movs w/o pause

Hi - I'm using quicktime 7.2 and when I playback large .mov files authored in Vegas, eg 720x540 400-meg size, the player will only play the first few seconds, then stutters/pauses, like it can't read the file (these are on the C drive) ... ideas?

It feels like a memory issue, though memory's fine on the pc for everything else... is it just 7.2 or? from authored mov files... I haven't upgraded QT since you all had posted having issued w/7.4? w/Vegas .. any ideas?

Funny thing is, after trying to play it repeatedly, eg 6-7 times, it finally will play the clip, but it doesn't start as smoothly as say avis in windows media player, just the .movs are "stuttery" for larger over-200meg ones.

What's the codec?

Have you defragged anytime recently?

thanks - don't know re codec, whatever the base installed one was... having the problem regardless of which drive the movs are on, even brand new external ones, so it seems like a memory issue.. I need to know what version of quicktime to avoid installing, maybe a fresh install of a newer version is good (I remember 7.4? or one of them didn't play well w/Vegas... )..
