OT: GL2 noisy

I was shooting this weekend and for one shoot in particular I shot in frame mode (fake progressive, whatever you want to call it) and I found that even outside the picture was relatively noisy. I used the custom preset with the sharpness up just a tad, barely at all...not sure if this was the cause, but it looks like I have sharpness artifacts. Here is a shot:

This shot in particular was odd. I was zoomed in quite a bit (no digital zoom though) and it was very hazy outside, but it almost looks like I have interlace line issues (the project setting is set to progressive and the footage is progressive). Sometimes the shots, mainly if far away, seemed a little soft too, but it's mainly the noise that is bugging me.

I shot in a combination of auto and manual -- gain was never above 0dB. I'm not sure why I'm seeing all this now. Here is an example of a "soft shot":

The two people just don't seem very sharp. I think I may have over exposed a bit, but I'm not really sure. Any input would be appreciated for future shoots.

I wouldn't call myself an expert on these two issues, but the first shot definitely looks to me like some sort of enhancement artifacts. If you turned on some kind of sharpening then I would say that's probably the cause.

The second capture looks to me like a lighting issue and corresponding aperture issue rather than something wrong with the camera. You could try lighting the people better on the shadow side so you could close the iris a little more. Or have you tried a polarizing lens and a UV lens? Sometimes those will help cut down on atmospheric haze and help colors look more saturated.
