OT: Good article on buying XP systems new

For those of you who, like me, prefer a REAL operating system, there's still hope. This article lists the various vendors that still offer XP on brand-new systems. Often one needs to go to the small-business portion of the sales site.

I am amused by the news that some sort of on-line petition is building in order to persuade MS to keep XP going for much more than the official June 08 deadline.

My limited experience with Vista is atrocious, with one exception.

I was able to record 8 tracks of 24bit/96Khz audio via a Presonus FP10 firewire box recently using Vegas 8b. No problems with an opening act or the main 100 minute main artist. On a $600 Gateway Dual Core laptop.

But I can't copy pictures to my Pictures folder and easily see them through the links presented to me. Says I don't have the "rights" to view that folder.

I am an XP program developer, BTW.

I view Vista as a failed attempt to make a Windows like Mac system, one that you don't have to think about.

Except, it doesn't work very friendly with anyone.

I am ready to sue due to loss of productivity. I would gladly take an XP Pro license instead, though.

==>Edited to add Gateway laptop to FP10 setup!

And it's not even a good imitation of a Mac system. Seems more like a Window Blinds skin.

I like XP but I just built a new machine and I couldn't see putting XP on it so I went with the newer Vista Ultimate. I like it so far but there are some things it does that are weird. There is a learning curve, not that I am saying there isn't anything wrong with it. I just bought it so I don't have any war stories yet.
