OT: Good computer?

Does this look like a good configuration for a computer to use with vegas?

Pentium 4 Model 530 with HT Technology (3.0GHz)
1GB DDR2 533
ATI FireGL V3100 128MB
80GB 7200rpm Serial ATA 8MB cache drive
240GB SATA150 RAID 0 Array (2x 120GB 7200)
400W power supply
Windows XP Pro Edition SP2
Sound Card ? ...
(either: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS or Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro)
IEEE 1394 (front and back)
floppy drive....etc..

The Box has space for:
(6) 3.5" hard drive bays
(2) 5.25" drive bays
(4 DIMMS) Dual Channel DDR2-533
(1) PCI Espress x16
(2) PCI Express x1
(3) PCI 32-bit 33MHz

Not to sure what most of that is :o) but i'm hoping it's all good.

thanks

is this a premade system or are you building it yourself?

I would recommend an m-audio revolution card over the audigy. If you record any audio I would go for a higher end card from M-audio.

It's actually a configuration from Boxx

I agree with buster: get a good, high quality audio capture/playback card.

The SB will just be good for gaming.

It looks pretty good.

I haven't been following the Intel terminology so I don't know what a Pentium 4 Model 530 adds over a regular 3.0 Pentium 4.

If you are going to HDV, this system will handle it, but it will on the lower end. For DV it's probably a screamer. If you feel comfortable opening your computer and adding components, then you may want to get it without a sound card and get an M-audio card. Their consumer version the Revolution is under $100. If you have been readting the thread on speakers, in general, computer sound card/speakers don't cut it. They are designed for gaming and DVDs. It's better to go with the sound cards and speakers that are made for music recording/production. It all depends on the work you do and the clients you have or want to have.

Any specific M-audio card to suggest? In 5.1

M-Audio has several different options depending on your needs & pocketbook. For example, there's the portable line (stick with firewire), the PCI card line and the gaming line.
Don't forget about speakers as well. Based on recommendations here, I went with the Firewire 410
and the LX4 2.1 and LX4 5.1 Expander speakers and have been very pleased with them.

M-audio only has one card below $100 which is the Revolution, their consumer card--the gaming line, that Mike mentions above.

Newegg.com has the Revolution 5.1 for under $70.

The next card of theirs that can drive a 5.1 system is the professional Delta 66 which is around $170.

However, I just noticed that you can still find an older pro PCI card the Delta 410 for under $100. (This is not the firewire 410.) It says it has 8 outs, can anyone confirm that this will drive a 5.1 system? This may be a better choice if you are going to do some recording. If you are going to do a lot of recording, you may want to step up.
