OT: Good Firefighter Songs?

Lanzaedit wrote on 10/27/2004, 6:31 AM
I'm searching for rockin' songs that would be appropriate for a firefighters' video.
I checked out some samples from "Ladder 49". From the :30 samples, none of those seemed to have enough action.

BTW, this thread is completely avoiding the copyright discussion...that's been discussed in other threads.

Thanks,
John Lanza

Sports music maybe. Fresh Music has some good sports music CD's that might work well.

Look at Ulead's Pic-a-Song, Sonic Fire Pro's Action library, or Hark Productions website for some really good, action packed songs.
Perhaps the reason people aren't jumping on the copyright thread is that it's been discussed to DEATH here over the past few years. Just do a search in the forum, you'll find that the third longest thread ever was related to copyright.
Same with DMN, same with the cow.

Just a small note on the copyright thing. Now that the Howard government has won the day it looks like the FTA will go through with no further amendments. One of the hidden gotchas is that Oz will enact the same copyright laws as the USA.
Perhaps you guys over there might start a movement to turn the tables on that one. OK, we have no Fair Use provisions re copying music or video (no backups etc period) but the way APRA handles things for event videographers seems way better than the nightmare you guys face in the US.
Bob.
PS, don't mean to hijack the thread, sorry.

and there was "Fire" (I'll teach you to burn) by James Arthur Brown? (I think)
and "Burning Down the Walls" of something and I can't remember the artist either.

There must be many more.

Burning down the house from Talking heads/David Byrne
the Tubes also had a "burning" song about the same time.
Brooklyn is Burning, -Automatica
World on Fire-Doors

How you gonna clear all these?

Smoke on the water: Deep Purple...

Got to love that classic intro...

Fire down below.
Burning of the midnight lamp.

AlanC. You're right, it was Arthur Brown: I am the god of hellfire, and I'll bring you: FIRE! 1967, if my memory serves me well...

But, Lanzaedit, is this really what you are after? Song with "fire" in the title? Or are you just after some firey songs that will match the action and heat of your footage? That's what I hope you are after, because I believe the verbal fire association will dull down very quickly.

Our fire department participated in a TUFF Challenge event against other fire departments. Kind of like an obstacle course for firefighters.
I'm editing pre-event team chatter as well as the event itself (the event only lasted about two minutes).

I've decided on the following songs:
(thanks to ScottW whose sports music suggestion reminded me of a couple of "Jock Rock" cd's that I have)

Blitzkrieg Bop (aka "Hey Ho! Let's Go") (The Ramones)
Sirius (Alan Parsons Project)
ESPN SportsCenter Theme (Da Da Da, Da Da Da)

That song "Fire" was released by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. That was actually the name of the band. Lots of stories and legends about that guy. One of his drummers was a youngster named Carl Palmer, who went on to become part of Emerson, Lake and Palmer. And don't forget "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters (written by Bruce Springsteen).

David Bowie (or wallflowers) - Heroes

Foo Fighters - My Hero
.. in fact, i just found a version with some figher fighter tribute stuff dubbed at the begining and throughout - email me if you want me to send it jmale2000@yahoo.com

Of course, there's also the Baywatch theme :)

How about "Simply The Best" by whoever sings "Simply The Best" (Google results: It's Tina Turner.)

Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.

or the new obscenity-filled theme song for Team America : World Police.

Copyright issues aside, you CANNOT go past an Aussie singer called Jimmy Barnes and the album your after is ....For The Working Class Man. "Thick Skinned" is my pick. This bloke will rock your socks off.
busterkeaton wrote on 10/29/2004, 2:38 AM
Jimmy Barnes had a really good song with INXS that I haven't thought about in at least ten years. Good Time Tonight, I think it was called.
StefanS wrote on 10/30/2004, 12:40 AM
He sure did. Actually the song was an Easybeats song.

Easybeats, huh? Wow, I think the only Easybeats song we ever heard in the US was Friday on My Mind.

I hadn't thought about The Easybeats in a long time either, until I was watching Behind The Music one day. George Young, the guitarist in The Easybeats returned from a long tour to find that while he was on the road, his younger brothers Angus and Malcolm formed a band, called AC/DC. You may have heard of them. As George drily noted, they were quite good by the time I got back.

ACDC (Acker Daker) heard of 'em? Watched 'em in the early days down the local pub, as well as INXS, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, even Canned Heat. Pub definately responsible for loss of hearing ... and brain cells. Gees those were the days.
