OT: Got into Full Sail

I have been working on my Masters of Education at University of Phoenix and have completed 17 hours thus far. However, I have decided to shift gears and checked into Full Sail's Masters in Education Media and Training. So as of this morning, I enrolled at Full Sail.

Does anyone have any additional information or know of anyone and their experiences there?

Its kind of cool that they provide students with a MacBook Pro and FCS2 with a ton of other software although I am sure its included in the cost of tuition ($30k-$75K). Either way, I will be a much better prepared teacher for my students will learn excellent techniques to teach other teachers how to use media effectively in their classroom.

I am jacked!!! Sorry, just wanted to share the news with my second family (Vegas forum.)

Kind of OT... is university of phoenix the online university that advertises everywhere? (I recall getting junk mail from them.)

What's your experience with them? It smells fishy to me but I would have no idea what I'm talking about as I've never tried their program.

EDIT: On further reading, I like some of their ideas like online textbooks, no tenure, and offering courses for which there is the most student demand.
Though it would still come down to the quality of their education. Unfortunately that might be hard to figure out unless you take a group of students and randomly assign them to Phoenix and not Phoenix and see how they do.

Never went there but i shot a TV pilot using their grip truck and generator (60kW). The producer got a deal where we could use their gear (to notch quality btw) in exchange of hiring their students as PS in various departments. AT first i was skeptical but it went really smooth.

Glenn, yeah thats the same school. They focus on team learning (cooperative learning) for the majority of their classes. In my Education Masters, obviously a lot of time is spent on researching, writing papers, and presentations. Its expensive for sure but that degree will be a general education masters. If I ever end up leaving teaching, that degree does me nothing. But a Masters from Full Sail in Media Education could open the door for me to teach at the college level, at Full Sail, or in a corporate training environment.

With the down economy, my profession has been invaded by every other profession that isnt making money (real estate, general biz, etc..) and now all of sudden these same people want to be "teachers" so they can get a pay check. These "new teachers" will be gone in a couple years when the market recovers but I will not allow myself to end up in this same situation in the future when it comes to securing teaching employment. So what better way to get a Masters in Education than to get it teaching what I love best, media.

Well I will be completing my degree online but it sucks that I dont get to experience the campus. Apparently you have an id badge that you must wear on campus at all times other wise you lose GPS (demerits?) points.

I never would have thought I would ever end up at film school...but you know what they say about never saying never....

Univ. of Phoenix is one of the most acclaimed online universities. It is not a "degree mill" like some places are. That said, one of their tricks in the undergrad program is that no matter what you've taken elsewhere, you most certainly will have to re-take some courses as a requirement. For example, Intro to C++ Programming is the same no matter where you take it. Most places it is a first or second year course; at UoP it is a 3rd or 4th year course and if you took it as an underclassman it won't transfer.

Course rates are (or used to be) about $1300 each for the BS program, not sure what it is for Masters.

I don't have any personal experience with Full Sail, but as I recall they had a rep for being full of dreamers thinking they would be fully employed upon finishing, only to find out they still had to serve coffee and sweep floors at best (this was in the 80's)

Good luck to you at FS.

By the way, you can do all the MIT stuff online for http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htmfree![/link]

For free, you don't get the professors grading your papers or any academic credit, but if your main goal is to learn, it is just an incredible resource.

They have quite an astounding variety of courses available. Many of them film and music related.
