interesting, but i can do without the presentation style - i like my information delivered straight, i don't have time for what presenters consider 'funny' or trendy.
I understand that its not for everyone but at least show some respect to others doing this type of work everyday and trying to push out an episode each week . They have thousands of followers and national companies advertising with them and other big companies giving them free gear to use and demonstrate (I guess they have it wrong). If you only watch the last few episodes then you wont get what they are doing. It's easy to be an arm chair critic so at least post a link to a more "straight" site that you prefer.
"I can do without consistently negative posters - I like when others post messages that "help" and more importantly don't post when it "won't ", I don't have time for what negative commenters consider "usefull" posts."
i'm in the middle of watching an episode now (damn slow download...).
But I'd say it's geared to by informative & entertaining. I mean, you could always do a dry, boring, long video tut.
I hate those. I avoid them like the plague. I wanted to see how to use Blenders texture paint feature (to refresh my memory). Had to get ~6 minutes in on a 10 minute tut just for the actual part I needed.
Shane, not everyone is going to agree with you in life or in a forum. If we all agreed on everything, if all us liked what the others liked, if we all thought alike, there would be little or nothing to be learned. And that's what forums like this are for.
Thanks Jay for the lesson, I don't expect everyone to agree with what I post. I also don't troll every post and feel it necessary to leave a comment when I really have nothing of substance to offer. I posted a link with the title "some fun videos". Just because you feel it doesn't meet your apparent high standards of quality video doesn't mean that others wont find it good. Sticky # 2 on the thread is there for a reason give it a read.
Dominated,
Actually, I don't agree with either you or Jay, so maybe you can take this constructively.
I too don't like the style, kind of a steroid mentality, but I'll sit through it if I think there is useful information at the end of the tunnel. In this case I learned very little that is new.
But to post a link, and then being unwilling to take all responses, is disingenuous. Kind of like baiting the hook, and then cursing what you catch. Kind of begs the question, who is trolling?
"Kind of begs the question, who is trolling?" From Wikipedia
I guess since I posted an OT post I could be considered a troll so I will admit to that ,
I have no issues with anyone one not liking this stuff.. My problem was that the post was to offer some who may like this kind of info the option. No where does it say "look here and give your opinion" and while doing that insinuate that the OP is a time waster or that there interests are somewhat low brow .
Here's an example of a comment about a form of film which is not my thing, others will agree others will not. Do I leave a comment to show my displeasure with the the links and the info- no- does anyone else -no- and if I did what would the fact that IMO Dynamation is old, boring and a waste of the viewers time do to add to the post. They get a respectful comment about bringing it to our attention and that's it.
This was a post about a web show, not a tutorial, so as a last post of mine on this topic I will leave with one more link and if no one learns anything from it or is mildly entertained then my bad.
Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I enjoyed the style and most of the content of the videos.
Sure, sometimes it's easier and better to find a nice tutorial from the jetdv.com site (I really do love Edward's tutorials), but this other style of podcast tutorials / whatever is interesting as well.
I was NOT saying you were being a time waster. That comment was directed specifically toward the filmmakers. I watched one of their video that was reportedly going to explain how to do something. They did not get to the "how to do" until nearly the end of the 9 or 10 minutes video. In my opinion, humble or otherwise, that is a waste of people's time.
There is a great deal of time wasting on the Internet--both informational videos and Web sites--where one has to dig down through layer after layer of links to find what was offered pages earlier or sit through minutes of interminable "presentation". I simply do not have the time to waste with sites and videos of this nature.
i am entirely in agreement with jay's comment above.
shane, my original post was not a put down of you either, just an observation that i don't have time to waste, and i'm sure many on this forum are in the same position. i think any comment / content that is useful should be passed on with justification, equally, that which could waste some ones time is equally subject to viewers comments informing others....
the amount of info on the net is increasing exponentially, and the ability to sift through it is getting more and more difficult, especially for time poor researchers. i value other peoples opinions far above manufactures 'reviews', and odd pieces with no references, etc. it is no longer as easy as googling a topic to find some nugget of information worth reading among the ads and promos, but with the help of people like yourself and many others on this forum, i'm offered a wide range of ot's that tickle my interest, inform, educate, or simply amuse me. and for that i am eternally grateful. but i am equally grateful for people telling me that it really isn't worth my time pursuing what at first sight might be interesting.
1) They run GoDaddy advertisements at the beginning of their videos. Kind of sets the level of integrity.
2) On a social awareness scale they are slightly above Budwzr's "fart" videos.
3) The one I had any interest in was full of bad advice ("I use a long shotgun mic for everything!")
I guess I was hoping for something other then the ones that any Vegas user would know from the get go, or at least more then the basics with the exception of jedtv but with the last post being about the release of Vegas 9 it seems a little outdated .(the link brought me to a newsletter dated Apr 9 2009)
creative cow- again more of the basic stuff (vegas portion of course) i guess if I had hours to go through everything that is on that site i would find something of use.
glenchan- I find that reading about video editing very blah, I'm sure there is tons of useful info but again if i need to read about fixing my white balance I will give it a second look.
digitalmedia- again I learned how to change the speed (slow/fast/reverse) in Vegas about 10 minutes after i first purchased it a few years back.
All in all these sites are fine, I can see why you would be turned off by the link I posted, sorry you had to be exposed to something above a fart video.
I just watched the youtube vaast parachute link which looked awesome but I learned nothing from it (was that all on shotgun mic)
Since everyone seems to be weighing in on the Filmriot link... There may have been some good tips in there (probably none of which I didn't know already) but I was really annoyed by the guy's goofy presentation style. "Comedy" can be very polarizing, in this case I turned it off almost immediately. I tend to avoid people that act like that.
I appreciated Dominated providing a link and I appreciated the posts following it with people's opinions. In this case the act of free speech canceled each other out and I didn't need to watch it. I could get on with some other things. No harm done.
Chris
ed troxel outdated, hundreds of authors on the cow including dse, too basic for you, and glenn chan blah? And the evidence of your superiority to be found in the link you posted, where?
You've got a ticket on the karma bus.
Done with this nonsense.
I have no idea what your problem is with me musicvid. For someone who obviously puts alot of weight behind the written word you sure read my response and took what you wanted to take out of it. I never said that Ed was outdated, I said the link you provided was to a newsletter that was last written Apr 9th, 2009, and that was outdated. I also never said that Glen Chan was blah I said reading about editing was, and pointing out Creative Cow to anyone who has even the littlest interest in video or photography would be like telling someone who edits in After Effects that Andrew Kramer is a good resource. You really went out on a limb with choices but thanks for trying. To quote some one who thinks they know more then everyone else. "to post a link, and then being unwilling to take all responses, is disingenuous. Kind of like baiting the hook, and then cursing what you catch."
For whatever reason you decided to make this personal and that's to bad it really was just a link to what I thought some might find fun to watch, you didn't and I get it. You may be done with this nonsense but I'm done with this forum. There are plenty of excellent resources out there that professionals can discuss problems, post links and not have to be on the receiving end of a few regulars who don't seem to want others to contribute.
