OT: Great Live Concert DVD

Thought some of the live performance editors might be interested. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the Bob Marley and the Wailers Live! at the Rainbow DVD.

Funny that I look closely at these things in the light of "I can do this in Vegas" type of mindset. Nothing technically difficult, but a lot of nice transitions/segments done with Opacity, Cropping and Overlays. Audio mix was very very good.

What was really amazing, though, was the video quality. This thing was shot in 1977, 29 years ago. Other videos/movies I see today from that time period are lame compared to this. It could have been shot today on modern equipment as far as I can tell (I'm not a pro, understand).

Abbey Road Interactive/Studios created and authored the DVD, so kudos to them.

It really depend on what it was shot on 29 years ago, if it was film then for sure even today it should meet (if not exceed) todays standards.
If the audio was recorded onto a multitrack system then again it will be as good as pretty well anything done today.
From what I see of the march of technology, the 'best' improves very slowly, the cost of doing the 'best' though comes down a lot.

There are some very interesting things going on with DVD transfers of older film. I just rented the Cream 1968 Royal Albert Hall concert (not to be confused with their concert a few years ago at the same venue). Some of the film looked very much like video. There was something temporally different about it: It didn't look 24p at all. It also looked like it had been cleaned in some way. I am not complaining, because it had a very nice look (the sound, unfortunately, was "basement tape" quality). Anyway, interesting to see what some are doing to recover, restore, and improve some of this old stuff that still has an audience in some of us aging rockers.

Thanks - I'll check out the Marley one... I've played "Legends" (CD) about a bajillion times, and used to play sax/keys in a Marley cover band, years ago ... lots of fun..

re concert dvds, my favorite is "AC/DC live at donnington", for a live concert DVD ... the RUSH one in Rio is good, as is the older Sade one, and Madonna in australia .. phil collins at the bowl is ok too..

it's fun to watch great live performances.. others?
