hard drive-based camcorders

"June 14 (New York) - “The Everio evolution continues,” announced Dave Owen, General Product Manager Consumer Video for JVC at a press event in their new "JVC Studio" pop-up store near Times Square. With that declaration, JVC once again broke new ground today in camcorder technology with the introduction of a 30GB Hard Drive-based Everio camcorder. JVC is the first major manufacturer to release a hard drive-based camcorder. At the press conference, the company announced four new models, including the GZ-MG20, GZ-MG30, GZ-MG40, and GZ-MG50."

And you thought DVD camcorders were bad.
Just wait until someone brings you footage from one of these to edit :-(

These look really cool, but why not have an .avi setting too? So what if you only get 1 1/2 or 2 1/4 hours of .avi. Give us the option.

The NY Times and Time have reviews of the new versions of JVC hard-disc camcorders.

They're not something a professional would need, but may find some niche uses. Looks to be the first step towards common tapeless cameras.

My favorite part of the reviews is this "There's also a sensor to tell you when the lens cap has been left on."

Sony and Laird already have an external drive that connects via Ilink (firewire) Plays back too. I have a Laird DV3 and is much better
than tape only or drive only. I like belt AND suspender security.

Lens cap still on...... that explains the dark picture.
