OT: Have Roxio - what is better?

Lili wrote on 1/24/2006, 12:15 PM
I've been using Roxio easy cd and dvd creator to make copies of my own video and music but experience constant errors and system hangs with it - plus other petty annoyances.

Can anyone recommend a good software program with which to copy music and video cd and dvd's (mass quantities not needed) that is straightforward, easy to use and reliable? Any help much appreciated.

I have also used Roxio products but I personally find Nero better.

No problems ever with Nero; many with Roxio.

For a long time I used RecordNow Max which was then sold to Roxio. The new version wouldn't allow me to copy an Audio and Video TS folder from my hard drive and place them correctly so that it would play in a DVD player. I continued to use the old version until recently when I bought a Memorex 16X DVD burner which included Nero with it.

I now use Nero exclusively. Never had a problem with it. Works very smoothly.

I use Roxio 6.0 and Nero (the two most common that typically ship with the drives). Roxio is more straightforward out of the box. Nero is easy also, but you have to know which option to use. Both seem to work just fine on any of my six computers that have recorders.

Unfortunately, these software packages sell for about $99 standalone--including features you'll never need (like video editing). It cost as much to buy a new drive that includes either Nero or the Roxio 6.x for the same price.

It makes me wonder if there is another problem. Are you trying to do anything else at the same time? Do you have automated services for Windows or Virust software turned on (may turn on during the recording). Do you have indexing turned on?

I would check for these problems first.

If all you're doing is copying your discs - I would suggest CD Burner XP Pro (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/). If it freeware and works very well - Just won't author video DVD's (although you can copy and create data DVD's) and it creates and copies both data and audio CD's.

I bought a few OEM DVD writers for PC's at work (no software) and we are using this program for our writing needs and have had no problems.

Record Now Max 4.5

Makes flawless copies and is generally compatible unlike Roxio.
There is a px engine update for it to make it work with newer burners.
