OT: HDMI to DVI cables

Will these cables allow me to project uprezzed SD from a Cyberhome DVD player to a projector with a DVI input? Several times a year I find myself showing videos to groups of people using a projector and would like them to be viewing the best quality possible.

I don't see what they wouldn't - but you won't have auido so you will have to run audio from the standard rca outs.

If the projector has composite inputs you can also use...I am guessing you mean the DVD 655 model?

It is my understanding that HDMI to DVI cable converters will not pass upresolution. Don't take that for being cast in stone however as things are changing mighty fast.

HDMI is a pinout, DVI is a pinout. The "converter" just passes single wires between compatible pins. No local intelligence, and no awareness of SD or HD.

HDCP is a DRM scheme, can be used with HDMI or DVI.

I had not heard that. it would be interesting if true because it is my understanding that both of them pass whatever signal being sent - mainly HD in this case - but DVI doesn't allow for audio. So if you start off with and HD signal and send it up and out a DVI seems like it would work as HDMI is compatible with DVI.

Is anyone here using the reverse - a DVI > HDMI and getting an HD signal from their PC? Right now I am using component cables but was looking at getting on of the DVI > HDMI cables. So I am curous about what JJ has said.

It will not change the signal (unless you add an upconverter box).

I was just kind of repeating what they were saying on the AVS forum.
They are into this stuff real heavy so I just assumed they were knowledgable in this area. There is a guru type near where I live who recited to me over the phone what you can and cannot do for about 1/2 hour in HT. You might check to see if your TV will upconvert if the signal is applied to the DVI jack. I don't think so. Only HDMI INput. But on the bright side I am usually wrong. One of the things I learned was that Circuit City is using one year old Sony HD-DVR's programed by Sony with 1080P demos which will knock your socks off.
