OT: HDV file sizes

Pre-planning phase of a shoot and was wondering how much a DVD-R will hold with the files in native .M2T format? Reason I am asking is I may be doing some collaborative work with someone who wont be able to have access to a HDV cam and was going to ship them to him.

So I guess my question would be that or at the very least, how big is a 1 minute .M2T file? Thanks.

Native HDV = exact same bit-rate as DV = 13GB per hour. So 1 minute = 13GB/60 = 217MB.

Edit... not sure if it is the EXACT same bit-rate as DV... but the end effect in so far as amount stored on tape... and transfered to disk over the firewire in M2T files is the same value.

Depends on the flavor of HDV you're shooting.

Liam_Vegas is right, 1080i HDV (as used on the Sony cameras) has the same data rate as DV, and takes up the same amount of space.

The JVC implementation uses a lower data rate, 19mbps, so it takes up about 20% less space. Figure around 10gb per hour.
