OT: head cleaning question

ok, this is probably way OT, but this is the only video place i hang out. i have a sony head cleaning mini DV tape and the instructions say to press play or start and run for 10 seconds. my question is, should i:

1. use the VCR mode and press play
2. use the record mode and press start
3. do both (or it doesn't matter)

Apply small amount to scalp, work into lather, rinse, repeat....

For your video heads # 1 should do just fine.

Dont clean unless necessary---the cleaners are abrasive. I am proud to say that I have only cleaned my 4 year old PD-150---once, and I didn't clean because I was having any problems.
