OT: Hello from Ft Myers

Status Update:

Arrived here Sunday due to a major traffic delay with an overturned tractor trailer so I had to end up missing Vic's premiere. Weather is gorgeous down here. Been 80 and sunny everyday.

New school is awesome. Administration is excellent and fellow department faculty have already taken me in and made me one of their own. Top notch experience thus far.

Students have been pretty much ok but I came in right at the end of achievement testing (FCATS) and the end of a grading period. Tomorrow will be the first true test for me as I actually get to begin instruction.

Managed to get involved with athletics already by attending my first school baseball game. My kids made it hard and had to leave by the 4th inning. They were tired.

My only complaint is the driving distance to school (travel from Cape Coral to Ft Myers) and the insane early bed time I have now (9:30pm so I can be up by 5:30am and at school by 7:00am.) Definitely sucks but at least I get out at 1:45pm.

Finally found an open wireless hot spot so I could finally check email and post here. Ill try to post more details in the next week after we get broadband installed.

Hope everyone has been doing well. Happy editing.

Enjoy the sea air. And don't forget about those hurricane shutters. I think this year will be worse than last year.

Plywood will work for window covering - get 1/2" and do it now while there is plenty of time. If you get "1/4" hangers" (they are wood screws on one side and machine screws on the other side, and then get wing nuts, you'll be set for years. If you do a couple of windows at a time, the house will be done in a week or two of easy work.

If you premeasure your windows (leave a couple of inches of overhang) - (google hurricane shutters, etc. for exact details), and go to the Home Depot early, when they open - they will cut them for you to the exact size you need.

Welcome to Florida - yes, it's as good as it seems.
Don't talk politics or religion to ANYBODY!!!
