I have a system from this outfit that I use on my motorcycle. Easy to set up and reliable. It's a lilttle wide angle so it gives the impression of moving faster than you really are, but that's not really a bad thing.

Depends on the quality you want.
we have nearly a dozen helmet systems ranging in cost from super sh** GoPro video for really high risk use to an Iconix cam that we mount to a rental system. In between are the more common HC HDV cams and CX AVCHD cams.
In terms of helmets, you don't need a cutaway, just a mount for your existing helmet. Sport camera helmets aren't protective at all, they're made to be cranial camera support systems.
Bonehead Goldmember, Skysystems QR4, CookieMount are all good options and are exceptionally light weights.
PM me if you need specific help, but I'm a big fan of the CX cams for low-low/med quality footage for personal use. If you're trying to shoot a Warren Miller epic, we recently shot Tanner Hall (aerialist skier) using XDCAM EX on a helmet, but you'd better be damn good at skiing before attempting same.
