Hello John,

Please accept my apologies. I shall attempt to curb my enthusiasms in the future. I hope there was no harm done?

Best regards,

Grazie

John - what do I do now, now that you've removed your comments about me? Please advise?

Yours sincerely,

Don't ask me about its value as advertising - just give me more.

I think the point here is the value of "seeing" someone elses work where the timing is immaculate. It is an ability - with or without Vegas - and is an intuitive thing, no matter how much technical expertise I accumalate .. yes . .I think this is why I posted this here ..

Take care everyone,

Grazie

OK, I'm thick maybe but this has got to be the most cryptic thread I've read.

I don't get some of the posts in the middle of the stack, but the videos people are referring to are a couple of UK Ford commercials. The one shows a cat supposedly getting its head cut off by a sunroof. If you're an animal lover, it's an eye-opener the first time you see it. The pigeon one is posted above.

After watching Star Wars/Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings one can do anything with computers and video

Okay, call me obsessive, but whenever I see something like this I try to figure out how it was done. Where is the break between real and CG?

I suspect the switch comes when the hood (oops, "bonnet") pops up. From that point, everything in the bonnet region is redone, as is the arc of the bird and feathers. Right?
Cheesehole wrote on 5/8/2004, 9:53 AM
Could be riredale. That was my first thought, although I'm not even sure CG is needed for this. I used to watch fx shots from pre-CG days in slow motion and this one is not beyond what is possible. (in fact I used to make similar home movies with my sister and our cat! LOL - not quite as convincing though!)

Then again, for all we know there was no actual bird at all!

It was good for a chuckle, even from a self described animal lover ;)

The term "animal lover" has been used in some of these posts. That fact alone proves that this is provocative stuff. But when you think about it - what is the real difference between this stuff and a Tom and Jerry film? At least among people who knows what computers can do to images these days?

Besides - they are UK commercials. Three facts about UK:
1.
It has probably the most sophisticated commercials in the world, meaning: its audience expect a high level of cleverness (as well a a low level of realism).
2.
Although there are cat lovers in the UK, it is the place where the road law says "If you run over an animal other than a cat you must bla bla bla".
3.
Although there are bird lovers in the UK, it is a country where many railway stations display a sign saying "Don't feed the pidgeons. The carry diseases and are a nuisance".

I was a little worried about the commercial potential, as my post above indicates, but when I learnt it was a UK campaign I thought: Yes, of course. Look out Tom, there's a new Jerry in town.

Grazie,

Sorry about that. After I posted my message to you, I thought about it for a moment and realized that it really wasn't my place to "police" the forum for off-topic messages, so I quickly deleted the message. I didn't realize that you had responded to it so soon.

For those of you that didn't have a chance to read my original message in the few minutes it was actually posted, I mentioned to Grazie that his last few posts, even though appropriately labeled as "OT," had nothing to do with Vegas and I cautioned him that he was, perhaps, starting to use this forum as a general topic chat room and I didn't feel that was appropriate. (I have been guilty of this myself in the past.)

I understand that the Sony forums have turned into a tight-knit community of "virtual" friends, perhaps Sony could add another category to their existing forums where we can talk about all things television, but not specifically related to their products. Although, this would eat up Son'y bandwidth and server space, so maybe we could agree to meet in some other forum outside of Sony for this purpose.

>But when you think about it - what is the real difference between this stuff and a Tom and Jerry film?

Only that, instead of a cartoon which is obviously fake, the bird looks - and probably IS real (up to the point where the hood opens of course!)

It's more like the Three Stooges I think...

Something else I noticed about UK regarding cats. Pussy jokes! It is much more acceptable over there (I think, having seen them in British sit coms) to make a joke like "I was just looking at your pussy through the letter slot, mum!" [cue laughter] Can't do that here since no one calls a cat a pussy. It's always "pussy cat".

I guess they aren't THAT far off topic. The Zap Box was a pretty creative post if you ask me. heheh... silly people with no computers.

What's the cat link?
Grazie wrote on 5/8/2004, 11:07 PM
John - Accepted. I love video stuff and I like seeing and reading things that Vegas can do to help. Sometimes a small wandering around the "core" of what we "know" can bring out some amazing creative options. I didn't really know where this thread was going to go. I couldn't - I was just asking for a link that someone may have known. I wanted to review the "thing" again - humourous content is a very serious business <wink> ! And I wanted to offer this link to a "fellow" videographer. - Nothing more, nothing less.

In terms of a separate "Chat Room" some of us have been "chatting" off site at http://gooddogproductions.com/stl-web/chat/mychat/ . When I've wanted to "get" people's attention I've been "posting" a "Grazie in chat room, wanna join me?" type of post here . .and others have come along. This time I wanted to "trawl" our chums here in one big shout . . does that make sense?

Anyways John, nice to be speaking again. I haven't heard of you for sometime. How yer been doing matey? - Ooops small talk . . <wink> better stop!! - Loves yah!

Grazie
