I"m curious....did they have to pay Chic, or The SugarHill Gang for the music?

Yes, they most assuredly did!

That or their record company. I can't really see a company like Honda not paying royalties (or licensing fees or whatever).

I think my subtle point was missed.

See....the SugarHill Gang sample the music for Rappers Delight from Chic. But this was waaaaayyyy back in the day before they had to "pay for it".

So...if Honda is using Rappers Delight in their commercial - who do they have to pay (since you only hear the music).

They would have had to pay the publisher and performer(s), I would imagine. It all depends on the situation at the time the music was used.

Have you ever went over a freinds house to eat
and the food just aint no good?
I mean the macaronis soggy, the peas are mooshed
and the chicken tastes like wood.

back to topic, what did you say it costs to make the film something like $6 mill? I was kinda laughing to myself, imagining the production crew, operating in the same kinda Rube Goldberg fashion as the actuall scene being shot.(unsed key light tips over startling a grip, he bumps the camera operator to start the pan......)

Have you seen the special features on the 'Jackass the Movie' dvd? They have 'the boys' doing a failed chain reaction of painful events.

Despite what the ad cost, the press generated and the fact that we're even discussing it now prove that it was a succesful ad.
