OT: how to disable DMA settings?

Randy Brown wrote on 12/17/2004, 6:33 AM
I have a Sony DRU 500a and to do the firmware update you're supposed to "disable [DMA setting] in Windows before executing firmware update. For details, refer to [Help and Support] in Windows."
After spending a half hour looking all over in "Help and Support" and looking all through Device Manager I decided I better ask you guys as embarrassing as it may be.
TIA,
Randy

Control Panel/Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI storage controllers/select the advanced settings tab---Then chang from DMA if available to PIO--make sure you change it back when done.

Thanks for the quick reply rextilleon.
Maybe it's too early but I can't find an advanced tab.
Thanks again,
Randy

click the plus beside the ide controllers and it will branch down , then click the primary ide channel and you will see the advanced tab,
