Hi everyone,
I finally got rid of the CD autoplay but I'm hoping someone here (I got no response in an XP forum) can tell me how to get rid of that similarly annoying screen that wants to know how XP should respond when one turns on a firewire device. Like the CD auto-play it doesn't listen if you select "take no action".
TIA,
Randy
Go to Windows Explorer, locate the drive, right click, properties, auto play tab, click on the 'take no action' choice, then be sure to click ln APPLY, then OK. If you don't hit apply then OK, the change won't take. Also if you use your firewire for multiple devices then change drive letters, surprise, Windows being Windows, won't always remember.
Thanks BB but that process didn't work with the CD autoplay for me (even after selecting apply after every one)...to force it to work someone directed me to go into regedit (as I recall).
Anyway, when I go to Explorer, then right click on "Phillips DV Converter" (TV One...similar to Canopus) or "DV Camcorder" then properties I don't see an "auto-play tab" , in fact just a "General" tab and Color Management" tab. What did I do wrong?
Thanks for your patience BB,
Randy
You didn't do anything wrong Randy. Windows is suppose to add a auto-run tab to any device that either itself is removable like an external drive or a CD or DVD player that can have removable data. The Registry patch should work.
Thanks Paul and BB,
That's the regedit entry that I was talking about that finally resolved the "CD AutoPlay" issue, but it doesn't stop the "Digital Video Device" prompt.
Thanks again,
Randy
That's funny. When I used that technique on my Athlon 1800 I could turn my firewire connected TRV50 on and off and the dialog never came up. Don't know why it doesn't work on your system, Randy.
Thanks Paul,
Okay, since it worked for you, I just want to make sure we're talking about the same tip (maybe I didn't dig deep enough) On your link is it the article titled "Turming off CD Autoplay in XP" ?
Thanks way2slo, but it's not "auto cd insert detection" I need to turn off, it's the "digital video device" detection...you know when you turn on your DV cam or converter via firewire. BTW, I made the mistake of selecting "open V4" one of those times when turning on my converter (just to see if it would remember) and now I have to wait 30 sec while it opens another instance of V4 (so it will listen to you as long as you give it something to do). Not a big deal, I just know someone out there knows how to disable it. One would think as long as XP has been out, when you select "take no action" it would do just that!
Anyway, thanks again guys.
Randy
Might try Xteq's X-Setup &/or plugins. Also might check the services running for XP [control panel -> administrative services], see if stopping device notifcation I think it is called does it for you. If it works, just change that service to disabled.
