OT: HVR-S270 tally light

Tom Pauncz wrote on 1/15/2009, 2:46 PM
I wonder if any S270 shooters could do me a big favour.

Whenever I shoot just to CF card without a tape in the camera, neither tally light - front or back - comes on. No such problem shooting to tape or to tape + card.

Haven't been able to get an answer from SONY Canada, so would just like to verify if others are seeing the same issue - or not, before the warranty expires.

TIA,
Tom

I think Spot/DSE owns one. Find a post and click on his name to send a private message.

...so the 270 would be a great "closet cam" then... ;-)

I do a fare amount of talking heads and find the tally to cause the talent to freeze up.
My light is turned off in the menu.

Yes R Courtney - I too have the front tally light off for the same reason - that little red light often produces unwanted self-consciousness and I get better results without it.
The EX1 also has a back one which I leave on for my own use, and it doesn't make me self conscious at all ;)

Seeing as how no one who has one has replied my best guess is the tally light is working correctly. It's most likely operated by the tape transport being in record. My reasoning is the light does actually work so it's not a case of a broken lamp or a connection open circuit.

I recall in syncro record the camera does get an indication back from the recording device that recording is taking place so how you're wanting it to work could be achievable by a change in the firmware.

That's just what I was thinking Bob. The rear light on/off is set in the menus and the front has a switch. Both lights work fine with tape, so it's not a bulb, switch or circuit issue.

I agree with the comments about talent - I just find it very useful, the rear especially, when recording tapeless on sticks.

Thanks for all comments so far.
