Sorry, just had to tell someone. Finsihed my degree in Information Systems last week and graduated with Cum Laude honors. Just found out today that I have been accepted to University of Phoenix Graduate program for Master of Computer Information Systems.

Now if I could just get a great paying job to offset further education cost.

Congrats. Got a specialty or particular area of interest within the field?

Not really. I am looking more at becoming a teacher here in Florida. I have already applied for my Temporary Teachers certificate which is good for 3 years and by that time, I should have finished my Masters degree. But Ill probably concentrate on databases/security.

A teacher? Yikes! Thank goodness you still have a few years to change your mind.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Well I decided on being a teacher mainly for the job security. After working for three different companies in the past 6 years that have eliminated jobs or sent them overseas to India, I started to look for an out to my profession. Teaching computer science/systems seems like a good fit because it is something I know about and students will need computer understanding definitely for the future. So to me, its win/win situation and I get mys ummers off. :)

It's certainly very noble of you (becoming a teacher). It is rewarding but also an unappreciative profession. I gave teaching a try 8 years ago and ......I'm a teacher.

Speaking of good fits, I just started a multi-media lab with digital and video photography for grades 1-6.

And... don't let anyone tell you teachers got it easy with the summers off. Teachers deserve it to recuperate!
my 2 cents anyway.

I live in St Petersburg now. I was born her and moved back here just last year. Weather is amazing except for today which was unseasonably cool, like 49 degrees.

I am interviewing with Lee County Schools (Ft Myers) next month so hopefully I will come home with a job to pay for grad school. Id love to find a scholarship to offset some of the cost but I doubt my gpa is high enough (3.51) to get a scholarship.

I think you and me may be the only 2 people ever actually *born* in Florida! :) I live near Chicago now.

Yes, I went to Boca Ciega HS, Dixie Hollins HS, virtually "lived" at Tyrone Square Mall, entered the US Submarine Service there, etc....all many years ago...

Nice to talk to a native Floridian... :)
