How's the handling noise? How heavy or light is it? What did it run you?

I used to be a boom op. A few ounces can make a lot a difference at the end of the day.

Actuatly... I went to Value and got everything for about $60 (already have mic & several hundred feet of stereo wire from previous wiring experiences).

I got the hallogen light kit with a tri/mono pod (the dual light one, it extends to 6 feet)
A 10ft black metal 3/4" diameter pipe (a couple bucks cheaper then the stainless steal one)
some nuts, lock washers, and one of those foot long 1/4" thread screw thinggies, and a shovel hanger (the pivot point).

I just put the light kit together, drilleded a hold in it and screwed the shovel holder in it. Then, i put the pipe in the holder: 2 feet out one end and 8 feet out the other. I drilled holes on the pipe at the end of the 2 feet end & put about 5 inches of that threaded screw thing in (with nuts and washers to hold it). That is to have a counter weight (1 gallon of laundry soap worked good!).

Then, on each side of the shovel holder I drilled through the pipe (broke both of my smallest bits making starter holes), then put about 2 1/2 inches of the threaded screw in there and used the washers/nots to hold it in place.

Wrapped some felt at the short 2 foot end (easier to hold), duck taped it there, ran some of my stereo wire along, hung some laundery soap at the counter end, extended the tripod up all the way, and I had a nice boom. :) I'm using wire ties to hold the mic wire on, but i plan on getting some 1" washers and having them welded on top of the pole (kinda like the hols fishing line goes through on a fishing pole). My next purchase is a mini disk recorder (or something along those lines) so I don't need my computer to record digital. :)

I was origionaly going to have one just handheld, but I then decided that since I will probley one have 1 other person with me (besides the person i'm taping), it wouldn't make anyone happy to hold up a boom for more then a few minutes. :)
