OT/Image Burn software and MPEG-2 >ISO's...

Hi Viewers:

I have been having problems with DVDA not liking my ASUS DVD burner very much and have been trying Image Burn (IB) software. It's free and seemingly very good so far.

My workflow has been from a MOV file to a VEG to a MPEG-2 then into IB for conversion to a ISO then a DVD burn there also. The resultant video looks good and has a smaller footprint. I am happy except that the audio part is not being burned or otherwise not present. (Shades of DVDA...)

So I tried the DVDA trick with a like named 2nd file in the .AC3 format. So I added these 2 files for IB to convert to a ISO and burned them both to a DVD. Once again the video played on my PC but with no sound. In Explorer view I selected the AC3 file but it would not open on any of my media players. So I'm stuck again!!

Next I'll try a .WAV file and re-burn.

Now does anyone have experience in using IB with a MPEG2 format and if so what is your work flow to get a proper playing .ISO file? I have posted for 2.5 days on their forum but no one can give me a good answer on what is wrong. The program advertises the ability to convert MPEG2 to .ISO however I do not make silent movies...

Thanks,
Bill

Are you trying to make a Video DVD or a Data DVD?

If you are making a Video DVD, you need to author it first thru DVDA, and create the ISO file there. Then burn that ISO file to disk using your image burning software.

Hi and thanks. Now that I'm more familiar with how the double file should be made up I think I will try your method. I did update my ASUS firmware and might even see if DVDA can get a burn also. Otherwise I'll see what IB can do with the new ISO file.
It will atke a few days to work through this but will repost when it becomes clear what transpires. Meanwhile if anybody has more experience with how/if IB can handle a video and a sound file to make a ISO from MPEG2 ONLY please let me/us know.

Thanks,
Bill

PS: I am making a Video DVD...

An ISO is a disk image. It is not a file. When DVDA creates an ISO, it creates a disk image of a video DVD. You can then burn that image to a disk.

If you want to just make a DVD with an MPEG file, you just burn the file to a disk. You can then make an ISO (a disk image) of that disk for later use if you want.

Hi. I cannot do "normal" DVD burning because of a lack of appropiate free programs, expired burning programs, PC general health, hardware bugs, virusus, malware and the like.

Aside from my hang ups with ImgBurn my $100.00 copy of NeoScene Cineform creates a video file where the audio is half of what the video length is and my $40.00 copy of DVDA hangs about halfway through a burn.

I successfuly used Deep Burner but could never master menu creation then that expired also.

I have kept up with Defragging, Registry cleaning, etc. but my system probably needs a total reformatting and maybe a newer Burner.

Excuse me for ragging on a bit but thanks for the insights you present and knowledge!

Sincerely,
Bill

Defragging and registry cleaning is usually harmless and useless. Reformatting and reinstalling only must-have software usually does wonders. A new burner sounds like a good idea too.

Thanks for your tips. I have this topic posted over in the Video Forum.
Last night I was able to get a good VOB file out of DVDA and will work with the burning aspects this weekend.

Thanks,'

I started having problems burning dvds and it seemed to take forever. I bought a new burner and it solved all my problems.

I thought they either worked or didn't, but I guess they can sort of limp along and fool you into thinking they still work.

BTW> Just saw Newegg has burners for $19 today
Doesn't get much cheaper than that...!

p.s. I make my original dvd in DVDA then take the disc and use Image Burn to make an 'image' of the disc and burn my copies from that image file. Seems to be faster than making copies with DVDA

Is there any particular reason why you don't make the image with DVDA and then burn using ImgBurn. That would seem a more efficient workflow.
