I have a jpeg file of a logo to be inserted with the opening titles.
How do I bring this into Vegas, reduce its size and ... get rid of the background .
Can Vegas to this ?
Vegas can get rid of the background if it’s a solid color that can be keyed out but only if the solid background color does not appear in the logo. (You could try using the secondary color corrector to get a better key if the background is multi color but it’s a lot more work.) Otherwise you can use a tool like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop to remove the background and save it as a PNG file. (Paint Shop Pro 8 has a wonderful background erase tool). You can download a trial copy from Jasc.com and see if it works for you.
If you’re in a pinch, I can do it for you. Send me the JPG file to john_rofrano at hotmail dot com and I’ll send you back a PNG file that you can place on the Vegas timeline with transparency. Use the Pan/Crop tool or use Track Motion to reduce its size. (Track Motion will also allow you to add a shadow)
Thank you for your kind gesture. Much appreciated. I have Photoshop Elements but I don't see the keying out feature . I'll download Paintshop and see how it goes. Will keep you posted...thanks again.
In Photoshop Elements 2.0, you can right click on the Eraser Tool and select "Background Eraser Tool" from the drop down menu. That should work in removing the b.g.
I solved the problem with just Vegas. The logo came with a white background and when I placed a solid white (from the media generator) beneath the logo....I had just what I wanted. The logo was moved in place with track motion. The client wanted a white background. What a relief !
Thanks for taking time to respond. I was trying to do that with photoshop...but that's difficult. I'll try this new Vegas feature. Can you please tell me how??
Thanks.
Photoshop Elements has a couple of tools in its arsenal you might try. There is the magic eraser, which works for single-color backgrounds. It's OK if there are gradations/shadows, such as in a photo of a product shot against a white background. You may end up playing around with the parameters a bit though, and possibly have to do some manual "clean up" work.
Also there is the magnetic lasso tool that works reasonably well for digital photographs. I've used it on digital photos of people and have been amazed that it works as well as it does. I saved as a PNG from PSE, which preserves the alpha channel, and imported the PNG into Vegas.
I have PSE 1.0 but assume these tools are in 2.0 as well, and I'd expect the Pro version to have them too.
Thank ou very much for taking time to respond!
I've already done it tru Macromedia Fireworks. I got rid of the white background and changed the logo color from black to white. It's amazing. Now I've got the dolby digital logo. Only have a doubt on choosing between Dolby digial and Dolby Digital Surround · EX. I guess I'd better post a new topic on this subject, since I've already checked out that rendering as AC-3 5.1 surround, has an option for EX encoding, if I'm not mistaken. The ones who may need the file please e-mail me: cunhambebetupinamba at hotmail dot com. I'll be glad to send you all the file as you wish.
It works this way: add 4 video tracks (I'm not counting the audio file here :);
-1 for the main video file,
- the other one for the text file (other text you may want to write),
- the other for the green solid color and
- the file with the dolby logo.
Add the Chroma keyer effect for the last ones selecting pure green screen and adjust the threshold level for outlines around the text.
Voilà! The dolby digital logo is there among your text (just add surround ·EX)
-one more thing for the "·" you can hit Alt+0183 :)
Thank you very much.
